Many of the wineries and tasting rooms like Artesia sell great chocolate. If you are on tour and you need a chocolate fix here are some places to fill your needs. (You could, er, also get other picnic supplies while there.)

Places to buy great chocolate in the Wine Country:

Dean and Deluca
Everything gourmet and delicious. A perfect spot to assemble a picnic although it might end up being lots of money. At the espresso bar there is a case with excellent chocolats from all over. If you want to stick to San Francisco Bay Area chocolates, try Charles SF or Poco Dolce. Both of these are gourmet chocolates extradonaire and more on these later.

Dean and Deluca brand itself has a variety of amazing chocolates. I picked up a box of twelve small sample bars with vartietal beans from around the world at the check out featuring varietals, single location and other exotic chocolate bean bars in varying percentage of cocoa content. The presentation made a great "hospitality" gift when I arrived for dinner at the home of a friend that night in lieu of a bottle of wine.

• Oakville Grocery
  Somethings seem like they started a trend or were there before a lot of others. This is one of them. I remember assembling indulgent picnics from the Oakville Grocery store as far back as 1985. It was one of the first places with gourmet everything, and you wanted to taste it all from smoked duck breast to artisan cheeses. Gourmet today far supercedes those days. Lucky us.
  
  Oakville Grocery carries many of the usual suspect fine chocholates. They carry a line of chocolate bars made in the American Canyon called "The Tea Room" with tea infused chocolate. Well, for me the Earl Grey Dark Chocolate Bar means one stop shopping.
